Fantastic all around. I just started personal training with Dakota who is a GEM! Knowledgeable, kind, tough when needed :) and so experienced! If you are even remotely thinking of joining, do the tour with Mia, another GEM, and sign up for the assessment with Dakota. This has been a game changer for me. Shout out to Donna - holding it down in the mornings! :) She is another GEM! :) Also, shout out to the Y leadership for not hiring Harold, who is open about his use of marijuana while on the clock. Kind of a public safety issue especially with all the kiddos that go to the Y. Blessings to all
Very helpful and friendly staff, the patrons too. Not to mention this is an excellent, and clean facility. Definitely feel a strong sense of community at this location. Does not get better than this! Best Y I’ve been to so far.
I have been an employee of the Y for many years. I was in a head-on collision that took me 9 years to recover from. I was a certified fitness instructor, rockwall instructor, and swim instructor. I've worked for many organizations through the Y. Kids With Cancer, Montauk Youth, fire departments, police department, ELEM Youth in Distress. As well as private functions for Christy Brinkley and Alec Baldwins family. Since the accident, I have become an excellent swimmer and wanted to share my experiences with others so that they might find the strength to fight. But I am no longer welcome here as an employee because I require medication to cope with chronic pain. I may never be without physical pain for the rest of my life despite how hard I fight for my health. The accident cost me 9 years with 2 spinal surgeries and 2 years PT, not to mention a few hundred thousand dollars. Drug free workplace? Does that include insulin, advil, and tylenol is a killer, What about sugar or caffeine. Items you buy and use from a pharmacy, whether its prescribed or its OTC they are all still drugs. Your splitting hairs here in Florida. I'm not a drug addict or dealer. I was in a head-on collision by someone else driving on the wrong side of the road. Now, I'm having a hard time understanding why you're making me pay for someone else's mistake. This is not an issue of safety or experience. This is a political issue. Descrimation is not only wrong, it's illegal. I hope you will update your unfair policies to include people who are hurt and require medication. We are not bad people.
I signed up my 12 year old granddaughter for Jim and Heather Gills YMCA volleyball camp during the week of July 22-26 (2024), the only available dates left. She had recently moved back to the area from the Midwest, and had just started benefitting from the wonderful gym facilities at the YMCA. The volleyball coach, Nikki, and her awesome staff, made my granddaughter feel welcome, and spurred her interest in continuing volleyball, and possibly other team sports. Great job! Thank you, Nikki, and all of the professional and friendly staff at Jim and Heather Gills YMCA.
This facility is really clean and well organized! However, some of the staff interactions have been strange, I had a personal trainer that I was not working with comment on how I’m exercising and how I shouldn’t be doing certain movements. Then today, after working out in the same spot for the last month I was told that I’m no longer allowed to work out there because I’m being an ‘inconvenience’ to the rest of the patrons while in the middle of my workout and in front of all the other gym goers. This was confusing and overwhelming, especially because I’m socially anxious and try to stay to myself while I’m there. Just something for the staff to think about and hopefully get better about!
