Great atmosphere, we sat outside in the courtyard. Surrounded by plants and a fountain in the middle. I tried the beef brisket enchilada and it was decent but on the smaller portion. My wife tried the salad with pulled pork. It was a good salad, quality lettuce and other items. The pork was a little salty. We had the empanadita appetizer which had a great sauce, but was very small. Not worth the price. Abbi was our waitress and she was very friendly and good service.
Our experience at Red Mesa Cantina was disappointing, to say the least. The issues started with the plastic cups, which had an unpleasant smell that affected the taste of our drinks. Plastic cups from a cafeteria isn’t something that should be used for customers especially on how old they are. The chips and salsa didn’t fare much better—the salsa resembled a bland tomato soup, and the chips lacked freshness. The cheese quesadilla was overly stuffed with cheese but somehow still managed to lack flavor, with no noticeable seasoning or cilantro to enhance the dish. The rice was severely undercooked, which made it inedible. The specialty tacos were another letdown. The pork belly taco was extremely dry, and my wife’s supposed Baja fish taco was actually a mahi tuna taco (presented as Baja) was overcooked and unrecognizable. Even the plantains, a staple for many, were over-fried and hard to enjoy. This restaurant seems to cater more to people looking for drinks and a lively atmosphere rather than those seeking quality Mexican food. If you’re looking for authentic or flavorful cuisine, this is not the place.
My wife and I visited Red Mesa Cantina for lunch today and enjoyed our meal very much. We opted for the Scallop Ceviche appetizer, which was served with tortilla chips. The Ceviche's acid-to-seafood ratio was well-balanced and quite tasty. My wife ordered the Chile Relleno and loved it. I ordered the Seafood Mofongo, which was the best Mofongo I've ever had. Our server, Jacob, was excellent. He was friendly, patient, answered questions readily and clearly and met our dining needs without interfering with the flow of our table conversation. The atmosphere at the restaurant is relaxed and comfortable. We will return again to Red Mesa Cantina. I strongly recommend that you do so, for a quality Mexican food dining experience.
Great food! I had shrimp with Cilantro lime rice. It was delicious 😋. My friends had a ginormous Burrito and Zucchini mushroom enchiladas. Both said it was good. Plus a Raspberry Basil mocktail. That was REALLY good. Would have been nice to have some chips to snack on while waiting for our food. But no, you only get what you order.
I don’t leave reviews often, but when I do it’s because I have been truly impressed. I recently had the pleasure of dining at Red Mesa Cantina and it was absolutely an unforgettable experience. From the moment we walked in, the vibrant atmosphere and beautifully decorated space set the tone for a fantastic evening! The guacamole was so fresh and full of flavor, just like my Abuela made it! I also ordered and throughly enjoyed the Shrimp Taco Salad - perfectly seasoned and beautifully presented. The service I received was quite impressive and I was truly amazed at how educated their staff was on their menus offerings. The staff were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. They made excellent recommendations to ensure our visit from out of state would be memorable! If you’re visiting locally, or like us - from out of state, Red Mesa Cantina is a must stop location!
